About the Opportunity
The National Science Foundation funded project "FW-HTF-RM: Collaborative Research: Understanding the Algorithmic Workplace: A Multi-Method Study for Comprehensive Optimization of Platforms" is a multi-disciplinary project based at Northeastern University. The project is designing a multi-factor model of platform outcomes that includes platform design, type of service, labor market conditions, labor market power of earners, the role of customers, and structures of information-sharing, to evaluate some prominent policy proposals that have been introduced to regulate platform work in Massachusetts.
The project has received additional funding and a one-year extension to meet research and dissemination goals. During the 2023/2024 academic year the project seeks to engage a consultant/collaborator who can contribute to data analysis, writing academic papers and responding to reviewer comments, coordinating and contributing to funding agency reports, and helping to prepare for and participate in stakeholder events involving policy makers, platform companies, and workers’ organizations.
The collaborator should:
- Be familiar with current academic research on the platform economy;
- Be familiar with varied approaches to regulating platform work;
- Have a strong publication record in the fields of sociology, engineering, geography; industrial relations; or other relevant fields;
- Have project management experience
- Have experience working with interdisciplinary teams
- Be available to dedicate 2.5 days per month to the project over a 6-12 month period
