Job Description: The Senior Software Engineer at Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company in Milwaukee, WI will automate the provisioning of environments using Kubernetes, Vault, Packer, Terraform, and gitlab. Write python automation programs by using REST APIs. Upgrade and migrate RDS databases including postgres and mysql. Implement AWS architectural best practices, maintain AWS Cloud Infrastructure in optimal configuration from both technical and budgetary perspectives. Design, implement, and manage DevOps capabilities in cloud setting up complex CI and CD workflows and automations. Monitor, alert, and analyze system metrics to identify problems and understand system behavior specific to security concerns to protect applications from attacks and vulnerabilities. Work with several teams to transition workflows to the CICD model and improve the code quality metrics. Design, build and deploy a multitude of applications utilizing AWS (Amazon web services), including EC2, cloud watch S3, serverless lambda functions, Elastic Load Balancing (Classic/Application), Auto Scaling, RDS, VPC, Route53, Security Groups, snapshots, and IAM, focusing on high-availability and fault tolerance. Troubleshoot issues generated while developing, building and deploying applications. Telecommuting permitted. Salary $123,386 - $200,200 per year.
Minimum Requirements: Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field plus 2 years (or a Bachelor’s degree plus 5 years) of application development, deployment, and monitoring experience. 2 years of experience must include 2 years of experience with each of the following: (1) design patterns and database architecture; (2) developing production-ready automation solutions using python, terraform, ansible, gitlab, CICD, and Kubernetes; (3) migrating, upgrading, and patching application databases; (4) performing peer reviews on code and design; (5) AWS Cloud and containerization; and (6) creating dashboards and monitoring using Grafana and ELK.
