Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated and results-driven Business Development Executive to join our team. This position requires a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of the freight forwarding industry and driving revenue growth. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in expanding our market presence, building strong client relationships, and ensuring compliance with all relevant Canadian and Ontario-specific regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement strategies to engage and secure new business relationships, including scheduling meetings, cold calling, and attending customer appointments.
- Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with both existing and potential clients. Understand their needs and provide tailored logistics solutions, including services such as Ocean and Air Import/Export, Distribution and Warehousing, LTL Transportation, Cargo Insurance, and Customs Brokerage.
- Develop and execute comprehensive sales strategies to meet or exceed revenue targets. Collaborate with sales and marketing teams to create effective sales presentations, proposals, and marketing collateral.
- Conduct thorough market research to stay informed of industry trends, competitor activities, and potential business opportunities. Use these insights to inform business strategies and maintain a competitive edge.
- Lead negotiations with clients to secure favorable terms and contracts, ensuring all agreements align with company policies and objectives.
- Work closely with the operations and customer service teams to ensure smooth execution of client contracts and provide SOP to the team for new clientele.
- Track and report on key performance metrics related to business development efforts. Use data to refine strategies and improve performance over time.
- Attend industry events, trade shows, and conferences to represent the company and build a network of contacts. Stay informed about developments in the freight forwarding and logistics industries.
- Emphasize customer satisfaction in all interactions, aligning with company policies. Assist as a backup for alternate accounts and support the Accounts Receivable department with tracking payments from customers.
- Perform other duties as assigned, ensuring the ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Logistics, or a related field. MBA or relevant certifications in logistics and supply chain management are a plus.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in business development, sales, or account management within the freight forwarding or logistics industry.
- Demonstrated success in driving business growth, achieving sales targets, and securing new clients in the freight forwarding sector.
- Strong understanding of international trade, customs regulations, transportation modes, and supply chain management. Familiarity with freight forwarding operations, including air, sea, and land transport.
- Excellent negotiation, presentation, and communication skills. Ability to build and maintain relationships with clients at all levels.
- Strong analytical skills to assess market conditions, identify opportunities, and develop data-driven strategies.
- Highly motivated, goal-oriented, and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and contribute to a positive and productive work environment.
- Proficient in CRM software, Microsoft Office Suite, and other relevant business development tools.
