About the job you’re considering

In this role, you will join Capgemini’s Digital Customer Experience (DCX) team as a User Researcher, where you’ll become part of our innovative, passionate, solution-driven team. At DCX we create customer-led experiences that drive growth for our clients and simplify people’s lives. Our approach integrates design, tech, and business expertise to create products, services, and businesses from the ground up or transform existing ones.

You'll play a critical part in the delivery of user-centred design and research activities for leading companies and government organisations and help build a vibrant design community through knowledge sharing. You’ll develop and grow, working with major clients such as Defra, DfT (Department for Transport), Office for Zero Emission Vehicles, National Grid, BP (British Petrol), and Heathrow.

Your role

The services we co-create with our clients are often transformational – the solution may not be obvious, and we are looking for individuals who can make sense where there is very little framework or direction.

As a user research practitioner, you will work within multidisciplinary teams to make a positive impact on the quality of our offer. You are curious, collaborative, and self-driven. You can work independently or as part of a team. At the end of the day, you are a researcher and a consultant. You can drive conversations and help to solve problems and influence project direction for the best outcomes. This is an opportunity to develop your leadership skills and unlock your potential.

This role is initially focused on our work within the public sector but experience of and a willingness to work in the private sector is advantageous. As such you’ll work with stakeholders across functions and levels and deliver your work as part of project teams. You will have impact at all stages of design and product development.

Your skills and experience

As a User Researcher you'll:

• Work closely with clients, stakeholders, product managers, designers, developers, and other User Researchers to plan and conduct high-impact research that helps develop a better understanding of our clients’ users.
• Contribute to creating better products and services that solve users’ problems and meets their needs.
• Lead the research for your team, suggesting the best approaches and methodologies to use to capture the right user insights.
• Plan and run qualitative studies, including remote and in person interviews, observations, diary studies, concept testing and usability studies.
• Use quantitative methods such as surveys to identify actionable insights and collaborate with the analytics team to enhance qualitative insights.
• Consider the end-to-end user journey and external factors that may impact the user experience including business, policy, and technical constraints.
• Communicate research findings and involve your team in analysis and synthesis to develop empathy with the users and enable evidence-based design decisions.
• Help to embed user-centred design and user research best practices into teams and the wider business.
• Have solid knowledge of user experience design and principles.

What skills and experience you'll bring:

Essential:

  • Experience and demonstrable domain knowledge working with Government Digital Service (GDS) service standards, using GDS design principles.
  • You will be eligible or have SC (Security Check) level Clearance.
  • Hands-on experience leading user research, using qualitative, quantitative or mixed-methods and knowing when to apply them appropriately.
  • Experience across multiple phases of a product or service lifecycle, from discovery and exploration through to design and delivery.
  • Strong storytelling, communication, stakeholder management, and facilitation skills.
  • Experience working in multi-disciplinary, agile teams where you’ve led the user research and influenced the design of a product or service through the insights you’ve gathered.
  • Familiarity with using prototypes to test hypotheses, assumptions, and user journeys.
  • Understanding of a range of tools and practices for in-person and remote research.
  • Ability to evaluate existing systems in line with best practices and accessibility standards.
  • Knowledge of best practice and experience in research for users with accessibility and assisted digital needs.

Bonus skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, sociology, anthropology, Human Computer Interaction or any user experience degree or modules, and passion for technology's unlimited potential and ability to engage with people.
  • You know how to include a diverse range of users in appropriate research activities to help teams deliver accessible services.
  • A passion for continuous learning and skill development - you can make the most of opportunities to develop your skills in parallel with the needs of your clients.

Your security clearance

To be successfully appointed to this role, it is a requirement to obtain Security Check (SC) clearance.
To obtain SC clearance, the successful applicant must have resided continuously within the United Kingdom for the last 5 years, along with other criteria and requirements.
Throughout the recruitment process, you will be asked questions about your security clearance eligibility such as, but not limited to, country of residence and nationality.
