Job Overview:

Reporting to the SVP of Corporate Communications, the Vice President, of Communications and Public Affairs will lead communications and public relations efforts to support LPL’s Legal and Government Relations teams in raising awareness of the organization’s public affairs and advocacy efforts. This leader will be responsible for communication strategy, planning and execution to mitigate reputational risk while also increasing the visibility of LPL’s industry efforts to champion issues impacting financial professionals and the investors they serve. The person in this role will be responsible for partnering across the business to create strategy in support of the firm’s legal and public affairs objectives and key results, leading public relations campaigns, including earned and social media, reputational and crisis communications support, thought leadership positioning and executive visibility.

This person brings a multi-stakeholder, business-driven mindset to communications and public relations, with the ability to be proactive while also being mindful of potential legal and reputational risks. As a communications subject matter expert, this person will have excellent partnership skills with an ability to quickly identify opportunities for storytelling and action. They will have a combination of experiences and transferrable skills that enable them to articulate client advocacy and PR campaign strategies, to combine long-term strategic thinking with an ability to opportunistically participate in news cycles, respond to reputational issues including potential litigation, regulatory actions and to report on results using data-driven measurement and media analytics insights.

Responsibilities:

  • Define LPL’s communications strategy to promote LPL’s government and public affairs activities, elevating our client advocacy role with employees, clients and in the industry.

  • Work directly with LPL’s Chief Legal Officer and Legal leadership team to manage all day-to-day communications needs, as well as long-term planning for internal and external communications efforts.

  • Build communications plans to address complex and nuanced issues to clearly articulate stakeholder impact and company position on topics including new federal and state regulations, enforcement actions, PAC-related news and client advocacy campaign efforts.

  • Leverage and build relationships with targeted top-tier and trade media contacts within the financial services.

  • Leverage and build relationships with key trade association contacts to align and advance LPL’s position on key issues impacting our clients, business and industry.

  • Create and execute communications strategies and supporting activities, including press releases, media pitching, thought leadership/feature articles, internal newsletter and executive communications.

  • Establish regular collaboration touchpoints with business stakeholders and subject matter expert partners (Investor Relations, Business Unit SMEs, Marketing, etc.) to ensure messaging alignment and coordination of communications activities.

  • Maintain and communicate a centralized view of all Communications activities, including planned press releases, campaigns, upcoming events & speaking, interview requests and outcomes

  • Analyze and report monthly and quarterly on communications metrics and KPIs, providing executive-level media analysis of news trends, competitor news, LPL coverage and industry topics.

  • Proactively pitch new ideas for generating earned media coverage as well as prepare reactive media response and client response (as needed) to mitigate the impact of corporate reputational issues and crisis situations.

  • Prepare executive spokespersons for media interviews using prepared briefing books, key messages and media Q&A.

  • Manage executive visibility opportunities including speaking opportunities, media tours, keynote presentations and awards

  • Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Communications, or equivalent field; Master’s degree preferred.

  • Minimum 15 years of public relations, or public affairs and communications experience.

  • 10 plus years Financial services or equivalent in wealth management acumen is required.

  • 5 plus years experience experience with financial trade associations, legislative and/or regulatory policy making and grass roots activities is required.

Core Compentencies:

  • Excellent storyteller and writer demonstrating sound judgement, creative problem-solving skills, and discretion with sensitive or confidential information.

  • Combination of reactive and proactive media relations experience.

  • Ability to make decisions in a changing environment while anticipating future needs.

  • Experience setting up measurement programs and measuring the ongoing ROI of communications activities.

  • Experience with media monitoring, media list management and compiling media analytics reports (Cision experience a plus)

  • Experienced self-starter who can manage projects independently, a good sense of prioritization and calm under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong partnership skills with a track-record of leading through both influence and authority.

Preferences:

  • Experience managing outside PR agencies a plus.

  • Media training experience.

  • Public company experience a plus.


Pay Range:

$131,200-$196,800/year


Actual base salary varies based on factors, including but not limited to, relevant skill, prior experience, education, base salary of internal peers, demonstrated performance, and geographic location.
