About the Opportunity

The RADLAB within the Network Science Institute and the Khoury College of Computer Sciences is seeking exceptional candidates for two postdoctoral positions.

The RADLAB, directed by Professor Tina Eliassi-Rad, has two main research programs:

1. Trustworthy Network Science: As the use of machine learning in network science grows, so do the issues of stability, robustness, explainability, transparency, and fairness, to name a few. We address issues of trustworthy ML in network science.

2. Just Machine Learning: Machine learning systems are not islands. They are part of broader complex systems. To understand and mitigate the risks and harms of using machine learning, we remove our optimization blinders and study the broader complex systems in which machine learning systems operate.

The focus of the position is to conduct basic and applied research at the interface of artificial intelligence and network science. Postdoctoral research associates should have the ability and desire to innovate. In addition, they are expected to interpret and publish results. They are also be expected to assist in the preparation of proposals and the supervision of students. However, their primary responsibility is to ensure that research objectives are met.

Deadline: The initial review date is January 15, 2024. Positions will remain open until filled.

Duration: One year with the possibility of extension for a further year upon successful performance review.

Start date: June 3, 2024 (The start date is flexible.)

Salary and benefits: Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. The position comes with excellent benefits.


Responsibilities:

1) Assist in initiating, executing, and completing research and experiments.

2) Prepare and write research papers, grant proposals, presentations, etc.

3) Train and supervise graduate students.

4) Laboratory management.


Qualifications:

  • A recent Ph.D. in computer science, network science, complex systems, statistics, applied mathematics, or related fields.

  • Expertise in graph machine learning and graph mining.

  • Experience in complex networks and complex systems.

  • Strong interest in societal impact of STEM.

  • Strong data science and computer programming skills.

  • Strong communication skills.

  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary environment.
