Postdoctoral Research Associate
About the Opportunity
Postdoctoral Research Associate: Engineered Living Materials. The Joshi Lab in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at Northeastern University is seeking 2 postdoctoral research associates to work on a collaborative project involving living materials. This project is being pursued in collaboration with Leila Deravi's lab (same department). Its focus is on combining living microbes with materials with dynamic optical properties for use in bio-sensing applications.
Candidates from any background will be considered, but strong candidates will have experience with genetic manipulation and culturing of bacteria, protein engineering and analysis, and biomaterials characterization. Work will mostly focus on wet-lab benchwork, though some project management and interaction with government funding agencies will be involved. Work will occur in the Joshi and Deravi Labs on the Boston Campus of Northeastern University. Engagement in the vibrant research community at Northeastern and participation in group meetings and collaborations will be expected. The appointment is for one year and may be extended pending regular progress evaluation.
Applicants should provide a resume/CV and a brief cover letter summarizing their technical background and research interests.
Ph.D. in chemistry, genetic engineering, materials science/engineering or related field; strong technical expertise and demonstrated independence in the design and execution of experiments. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills and proven track record of mentorship of undergraduate and graduate students.
HOW TO APPLY:
Applications should contain a cover letter briefly describing candidate’s background and specific research interests, a full CV with a publication list, Ph.D. completion date, and the names and contact information for three references who might be contacted for recommendations. Review of applications will begin immediately.
The position will be available starting immediately, and the appointment will be for one year, renewable for an additional 1-2 years, depending on continuation of funding.
