About the Opportunity

JOB SUMMARY

Working in the university central budget office, the Sr. Budget Analyst will manage and monitor a portfolio of expense budgets, and provide financial reporting to senior management. This position supports the development and utilization of high-quality data for the delivery of impactful operational reporting and will assist in resolving financial issues as they arise. The incumbent will use systems, tools, and reports to evaluate data crucial to the appropriate oversight of university financial results.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must have excellent Microsoft Office Suite and overall computer skills, as well as the ability to learn new software and web-based programs. Experience managing and reporting on budgets. Advanced skills in excel are required. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required with the ability to interact with a wide variety of stakeholders. Must be detail-oriented with a high level of attention to accuracy and completeness and superior office/time management capabilities. Knowledge and skills required for this position are typically acquired through the completion of a Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) with a minimum of three years of general financial roles.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

Budgeting and Financial Management

  • Manage a portfolio of expense budgets; identify short and long-range budgetary issues and recommend solutions
  • Maintain expense controls, review monthly expenditures and projections with management ensuring appropriateness and accuracy, and alignment with University policy and procedures.
  • Creation of annual operating expense budgets, monthly budget to actual variance reporting, and monthly expense forecasts
  • Perform various financial analyses and reconciliations and produce ad hoc reports

Data, Reporting, and Analysis

  • Understand and become an expert in financial and personnel data; recommend process and data entry improvements to advance the quality and consistency of the data and financial reporting
  • Create ad hoc reporting as needed and help train University financial users on core budget and forecast reporting
  • Work with other members of the team on financial models and dashboards

Financial Systems

  • Participate in financial systems testing
  • Work on projects and implementations related to new financial systems and integrating systems that involve/use financial and personnel data
