About the Opportunity

Job Summary:
Northeastern’s Burlington Innovation Campus is looking for individuals who are curious about new scientific technologies in the Biotech space. The BATL/LSTC lab focuses on carrying out research projects with potential to innovate current processes in clinical diagnostics and biomanufacturing. We are committed to identifying the current value of new technologies like AI/ML to academia and industry and providing support to develop where gaps exist. Most projects will require individuals to be flexible and adaptable as work performed in our lab is interdisciplinary. In addition to research, our labs are focused on workforce development and will often carry out hands-on training with equipment used in our research efforts. Applicants should expect to be performing a mix of wet-bench experimentation, instrumentation operation, and training as needed on a daily basis.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Execute and adhere to all safety protocol relating to a laboratory, including handling of hazardous biological agents and chemicals as well as potentially hazardous chemicals; hazard clean-up, as well as universal precautions and infection control procedures
  • Maintain complete and accurate lab quality control procedures and the follow through of OSHA and other safety guidelines
  • Follow the laboratory’s procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results
  • Adhere to the laboratory’s quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed
  • Follow the laboratory’s established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory’s established acceptable levels of performance
  • Perform scientific literature reviews of analytical protocols and writing summaries of findings
  • Operate multiple types of instrumentation (HPLC, LCMS, FT-IR, RAMAN, Gel electrophoresis, wave rockers, cell counters, flow cytometry) with protocols under development
  • Train and oversee partners, volunteers, and students on basic lab bench skills and developed training content
  • Work filling and inoculating bioreactors containing mammalian or bacterial cell lines
  • Become proficient on multiple pieces of instrumentation in supported online tracking systems
  • Comfortable balancing work across multiple projects (at least three) following priorities given by a supervisor
  • Maintain inventory of samples in inventory management software

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Physics, Chemistry, Biology or equivalent. Experienced candidates with a high school diploma will be considered.
  • Skills in micro pipetting, solution preparation, and dilutions.
  • Ability to work with third party software applications to analyze data and to interface with different pieces of instrumentation.
  • Experience in the following areas:
  • Teaching and training across multiple levels of experience and education

Experience with HPLC for downstream purification and bioreactor setup experience

  • Unicorn software to operate different pieces of equipment
  • Handling of mammalian cell lines, bacterial cells, and human samples
  • Native and PTM Mass Spec analytics
  • Proteomics
  • Sequencing on multiple platforms
  • Navigating inventory management software
  • Working with XR (AR/VR) hardware and development of digital content
