About the Opportunity

JOB SUMMARY:

The Northeastern University Student Health Plan (NUSHP) is a required student health plan program for all eligible curriculums. NUSHP is automatically assessed and therefore a program that overlaps many students, programs, and areas of the university. Reporting to the Student Health Plan Manager, the NUSHP Program Coordinator assists with the efficient and effective operation of NUSHP. The position requires organization, creativity, initiative, critical thinking and problem-solving skills and the highest level of customer service skills to assist in supporting students and parents understanding of the required insurance coverage and university policies and procedures. A demonstrated ability to handle multiple responsibilities concurrently, an ability to work both collaboratively and independently in a fast-paced and dynamic environment; and previous experience working with college level students is required in the position. This is a highly visible, student and parent facing position requiring constant customer contact via telephone, e-mail and in-person visitors, and the ability to provide assistance to the point of problem resolution.

Candidate may be required to work some evening, weekend and holiday hours as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Resolves problems and handles inquiries related to the NUSHP plan and benefit coverage
  • Interprets and applies guidelines in order to appropriately answer questions.
  • Responds to calls from parents, students, staff, and others regarding NUSHP in a timely, accurate, and professional manner.
  • Screens, reviews, and prioritizes incoming correspondence and e-mail and handles and/or forwards to appropriate individuals for action.
  • Contacts, discusses, and resolves any discrepancies in coding and documentation with the appropriate parties.
  • Coordinates with third party vendors to resolve enrollment issues, claims concerns, and/or coverage problems.
  • Presents plan at various orientation sessions
  • Manages the NUSHP website keeping information current, clear, and up-to-date
  • Coordinates publicity activities including draft brochures and newsletters.
  • Manages student and parent surveys and other marketing assessment activities.
  • Provides explanation and information to students regarding insurance coverage, deductibles, co-pays, and authorization requirements.
  • Provides insurance eligibility and referral information to the Third Party Administrators.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Computer literacy requirements include strong working knowledge of Microsoft Windows environment including MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Experience creating, managing and maintaining web-based programs and platforms required.
  • Must be able to balance conflicting priorities and remain calm under pressure. Crisis intervention skills and creative problem solving required.
  • Must possess ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, parents and university-wide administrators.
  • Experience handling confidential and sensitive information and situations with diplomacy, exercising excellent judgment.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred and a minimum of two to four years of work in higher education strongly preferred, equivalent experience will be considered.
