Job Description: The Senior Software Engineer at Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company in Milwaukee, WI will write and modify software applications. Write automated unit, functional, integration, and regression tests individually and in collaboration with test engineers. Participate in daily scrum meetings, pull feature work tickets in Jira, and complete development work within sprint. Use java libraries (JDBI) to read and write to relational databases including db2, Sybase, and MySQL. Review code changes of peers and provide feedback. Analyze existing legacy Java source code and provide design input for new features. Perform DevOps activities for compensation applications. Author and update Maven build files, Dockerfiles, and Kubernetes manifests for deployment of artifacts to non-production and production environments. Write and modify GitLabCI pipelines using bash scripts to initiate build, test, scanning, and deployment. Work with cloud and associated technologies including AWS, Azure, and containerization. Aggregate and share team standards and best practices with a focus on java, spring, spring boot, JavaScript, node, Typescript, and Python programming language. Design and implement system data contracts in partnership with multiple teams to accommodate new business requirements, compensation programs, and product lines. Identify and communicate priority between technical work and business priorities to meet multiple milestones and properly set expectations when work will be completed. Design, build, test (Unit, Functional, Regression and Integration Testing) and support solutions to support Insurance and Investment product compensation systems. Perform root cause analysis of production bugs reported by Field, Business, Support Teams to isolate issue, identify impact, and provide resolution. Telecommuting permitted up to 2 days per week. Salary $123,386 - $203,840 per year.

Minimum Requirements: Master’s degree in information systems, computer science, or a related field plus 2 years (or a Bachelor’s degree plus 5 years) of experience as a software engineer or in a related occupation. Experience must include 2 years with each of the following: (1) Java, JavaScript, C++, and Python; (2) Cloud and associated technologies including AWS, Azure, and containerization; (3) Linux or UNIX environment; (4) designing and implementing SQL databases; and (5) developing API services using service-oriented architecture, REST, and Microservices.
